• Fearless Manny Pacquiao demolished David Diaz in 9th Round TKO
• First Asian to hold four boxing titles
• Manny Pacquiao now beats Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s record
By Mr. Nice Guy
There’s no stopping to the continued domination of the ring by Philippines’ fearless warrior Manny Pacquiao when he demolished again another Mexican fighter by knocking him out in the 9th round and bagging another ring title in the lightweight division’s 135 lbs. during a 12-round fight yesterday in the US.
David Diaz lost his WBC championship crown and succumbed to Pacquiao’s barrage of punches. He started to lost composure in the earlier rounds until he met the Filipino boxer’s demolishing punch knocking him to the canvass. Pacquiao’s win of another title made him the first Asian to hold four titles in different divisions, it was learned.
Pacquiao’s stopping of Diaz in the 9th round of the fight was already predicted by his coach Freddie Roach saying that Pacquiao is more than prepared for the fight and he is ready to grab the Lightweight crown from Diaz. Roach said earlier Pacquiao is very fit for WBC's Lightweight division and more than ready to brawl with anybody in the said division.
In an interview with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum by HBO, Arum said more fights are now waiting for Pacquio in 135 lbs especially that he is the new champion. He said he also considers the earlier challenge made by Edwin Valero of Venezuela. Valero is reported to have defeated his previous opponents in his 21 professional fights via knockout in the first rounds. There is also the looming rematch between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao dedicated his win with Diaz to his country recently hit by strong typhoon Frank leaving thousands dead and homeless – most especially to those more than 500 passengers who died in the ill-fated ship MV Princess of the Stars.
